Garlic Prawns Recipe

At Restaurante La Venus, we bring you one of the most popular and flavorful seafood dishes: Garlic Prawns. Whether enjoyed as a starter or a snack, these prawns are packed with Mediterranean flavors and are the perfect dish for sharing with family and friends. The combination of garlic, olive oil, and fresh prawns creates a delightful, easy-to-make dish that will impress anyone.

Ingredients for Garlic Prawns (Serves 4)

  • 800g fresh prawns, peeled (leave the tail on for presentation)

  • 160ml white wine

  • 5 cloves of garlic, thinly sliced

  • 1/2 lemon (juice)

  • 1 chili pepper (or piripiri)

  • Olive oil (as needed)

  • Salt (to taste)

  • Freshly ground black pepper (to taste)

  • Fresh coriander, chopped (for garnish)

How to Prepare Garlic Prawns

  1. Prepare the Prawns

    • If using frozen prawns, allow them to thaw. Peel the prawns, leaving only the tail for presentation. Season them with salt, pepper, and the juice of half a lemon.

  2. Heat the Oil

    • Heat a generous drizzle of olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced garlic and let it cook slowly until it becomes golden and fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.

  3. Add the Prawns

    • Add the prawns to the pan and cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they turn pink and are cooked through.

  4. Finish with Wine and Chili

    • Once the prawns are cooked, pour in the white wine and add the chili pepper. Let the mixture simmer for an additional minute, allowing the flavors to combine.

  5. Serve

    • Transfer the prawns to a serving dish and garnish with freshly chopped coriander. Serve with slices of crusty bread to dip into the garlic-infused oil, and enjoy immediately.

Tips for the Perfect Garlic Prawns

  • Adjust the Heat: You can control the spiciness by adjusting the amount of chili or piripiri pepper you use.

  • Wine Substitutes: If you prefer, you can substitute white wine with a splash of vegetable or fish stock for a non-alcoholic version.

  • Serving Suggestion: Garlic prawns pair beautifully with a light, crisp white wine such as Sauvignon Blanc or Albariño.
